Design, Permits and Construction Under One License
Green Design and Build is a residential design-build contractor headquartered at 16120 Sherman Way in Van Nuys, in the heart of the San Fernando Valley. From there we run projects across Los Angeles County, from the Valley and the Westside to the South Bay and the San Gabriel Valley; across Orange County, from Anaheim and Fullerton to Irvine and the South County master-planned communities; across Ventura County, including Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Camarillo and Oxnard; across western Riverside County, including Corona, Riverside, Eastvale and Murrieta; and in Ontario and Rancho Cucamonga in western San Bernardino County.
One contract covers the design, the permit and the build. We prepare and submit the plans ourselves, pull the permit with the right office, whether that is LADBS for the City of Los Angeles, a city building division in Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena or Irvine, or county Building and Safety for unincorporated areas, and manage every trade through to final inspection. You deal with one project manager from the first site visit to the walkthrough.
Many of the homes we work on were built between the 1950s and the 1970s, which means undersized electrical panels, galvanized plumbing, unpermitted past work and pre-1978 lead paint are normal findings, not surprises. We plan and price for them up front.

Our Process
From the first conversation to the final walkthrough, here is what working with us looks like.
1. Consultation
We start with a conversation about your goals, your property, and your budget.
2. Site Visit
We assess the property in person and talk through what is realistic for your space. The visit itself takes about two hours.
3. Design & Proposal
We put together a design direction and a clear, itemized proposal, usually within about 48 hours of the site visit.
4. Contract & Permits
We finalize the agreement and pull any required permits before work begins. The paperwork takes about a week. Plan check is out of our hands — how long it runs depends on your city’s building and safety department.
5. Construction
We manage every trade and keep you updated throughout the build. How long this takes depends on the size of the job.
6. Final Walkthrough
We walk the finished project with you and resolve anything on the punch list. We are not finished until every inspection has passed.

How many projects has Green Design and Build completed?
Hundreds of completed projects. The company is licensed with the California Contractors State License Board under licence number 1110975 and works across Los Angeles, Ventura, Orange, western Riverside and western San Bernardino counties.
Do you only build ADUs?
No. Green Design and Build is a full-service residential general contractor. We build ADUs and garage conversions, but just as often kitchens and bathrooms, room additions and second-story additions, whole-home renovations, new homes, foundation and structural work, roofing, flooring, patio covers, pavers, outdoor living, painting, and windows and doors. We take on projects of every size across Southern California, from a single bathroom to a house built from the ground up.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Green Design and Build holds California contractor license CSLB #1110975 and is licensed, bonded and insured. You can check that license, and any California contractor’s, on the Contractors State License Board website before you sign anything. We would encourage you to.
How quickly will I hear back, and how fast do I get a price?
We reply to enquiries within one business day. The site visit takes about two hours, and your written, itemized proposal follows within 48 hours of that visit. Small jobs that do not need a permit can start within a few days of signing; permitted work depends on plan check at your city.
What will my project cost?
It depends entirely on the house, the scope and the finishes, but we publish typical Los Angeles budgeting ranges for kitchens, bathrooms, additions, ADUs and whole-home renovations on our pricing page. Those are estimates and not a price list — your project can come in lower or higher, and the only real number is a written proposal after a site visit.
Do you handle design and permits, or only construction?
All of it. Design, permits and construction under one license, so you are not managing an architect, an expediter and a builder separately.
How much is due up front, and how is the rest paid?
By California law the down payment on a home improvement contract cannot be more than $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract price, whichever is less. The Contractors State License Board confirms this covers the construction of an accessory dwelling unit. After the down payment, payments follow the work: a contractor cannot be paid more than the value of the work actually completed at that point. Anyone asking a homeowner for a larger deposit than that is not permitted to.

Nine regions: the San Fernando Valley, the Santa Clarita Valley, the Verdugos and San Gabriel Valley, Central and Westside Los Angeles, the South Bay and Harbor, the Conejo Valley and Ventura County, Orange County, western Riverside County, and western San Bernardino County. Do you warranty your work?
Yes. We warranty our labor for one year from the date the work is completed. Materials, fixtures and appliances carry their own manufacturer warranties, which are separate from ours and vary by product.
