What happens next

  1. We reply within one business day. A member of our Van Nuys team calls or emails to ask a few questions about the property, the scope and your budget range, and to set a time to visit.
  2. Free on-site visit. We walk the property with you, usually for about two hours, and look at the things that actually set the price: access, utilities, panel capacity, slope, setbacks, and the condition of what is already there.
  3. Written scope and estimate. You receive an itemized proposal, usually within about 48 hours of the visit, that states what is included, what is excluded and what is an allowance, so you can compare it line by line with any other bid.

Why homeowners call us

  • One company, one contract, one person who answers the phone. Design, permits and construction all sit with us. You are not passed between an architect, a draftsman and three subcontractors while each one points at the other.
  • Your deposit is capped by law, and we hold to it. California allows no more than $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract price up front, whichever is less. We never ask for more, and every payment after that is tied to work you can walk up to and see finished.
  • Every photograph on this site is ours. The project pages show before, during and after shots taken by our own crews on our own jobs. Nothing is stock and nothing is borrowed, so what you see is what we actually build.
  • 146 reviews, 4.7 stars on Yelp, and hundreds of finished projects. Read them before you call us rather than after. We would rather you come in knowing exactly who you are dealing with.
  • Licensed, bonded and insured, and easy to check. CSLB #1110975. Verify the license at CSLB — we would rather you check than take our word for it.

“The project was a success, the team’s communication was outstanding, making sure the job was done efficiently and to a high standard.” — Lielle K.

“He showed up early, finished the job faster than expected, and left the space spotless. On top of that, his pricing was very fair.” — Frank D.

Frequently asked questions

Do you charge for estimates?

No. Green Design and Build does not charge for the consultation, the on-site visit or the written estimate, anywhere in Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, western Riverside or western San Bernardino County. If a project needs paid design drawings or engineering before it can be priced accurately, for example a hillside ADU that needs a geotechnical report, we tell you that up front and it is priced separately in writing.

How soon can you start?

Start dates depend on two things: our schedule and the permit. Small unpermitted-scope jobs such as painting or flooring can usually be scheduled within a few days of signing. Permitted work such as an ADU, room addition or re-roof starts once the city issues the permit, and plan-check time varies by jurisdiction, from days for an express permit to several months for a full plan review. We give you a realistic start window in the proposal.

Do you work in my city?

Green Design and Build serves homeowners across Los Angeles County, Orange County, Ventura County, western Riverside County and western San Bernardino County from our office in Van Nuys. That covers the San Fernando Valley, Central and Westside Los Angeles, the South Bay, the San Gabriel and Santa Clarita valleys, Orange County, the Conejo Valley and Ventura County, the Corona, Riverside, Eastvale and Murrieta area, and Ontario and Rancho Cucamonga in western San Bernardino County. If you are not sure, call and we will tell you straight away.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Green Design and Build holds California General Building Contractor license #1110975 from the Contractors State License Board and is bonded and insured. You can check the license status, bond and workers’ compensation coverage on the CSLB website in about a minute, and we can send a certificate of insurance before you sign.
